Sandy Council unanimously OKs skyscrapers

THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE – SANDY – Move over, LDS Church Office Building. Step aside, Frank Gehry.
Sandy could land Utah’s tallest building – make that buildings.
On Tuesday, the burb’s City Council approved a new arts-and-culture land-use zone that allows towers up to 600 feet tall, paving the way for a 40-story high-rise, about 550 feet, near 10100 South and Interstate 15. That’s just the first phase of The Proscenium, which calls for two additional 30- to 40-story buildings.

Planning Commission OKs plan to raise Sandy’s ceiling

THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE – SANDY – This southern Salt Lake Valley ‘burb could bust through its 150-feet-capped skyline to allow buildings up to 600 feet tall.
On Thursday, Sandy’s Planning Commission recommended that the city create a new arts-and-culture zoning in its central business district to pave the way for a proposed $560 million, mixed-use project that boasts three towers, each up to 40 stories tall.

Sandy Council delays height-limit vote

THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE – SANDY – The sky would have been the limit for buildings downtown. The sky and Sandy Planning Commission, anyway.

But some council members said removing a height restriction ordinance and giving the Planning Commission ultimate approval on how high buildings could go was “pushing too far,” according to Councilman Steve Smith.
So, the Sandy City Council delayed its vote on eliminating height limits to July 15, when all seven members would be present. Councilman Chris McCandless was absent.
The current code caps building heights to 10 stories, but the new Proscenium project pitches three 30-story skycrapers near 10000 South and Interstate 15.
